Darcy Van Gelder - Henna Tattoo Artists

A California native, born to artistic and musical parents, Darcy began painting at the age of two. She first saw henna in National Geographic: beautiful photographs of brides in India and the mid-east. She was disappointed that the recipes and techniques were not included but took it upon herself to begin experimenting with little success.

Intensely interested in cultures that use henna, Darcy has extensively studied the patterns and motifs of India, Persia, Morocco, and the Arab world. She’s spent time traveling and hennaing in India.

A Moroccan friend shared her secrets one summer night about 10 years ago. Darcy was sent home with a sack of Moroccan henna and she was hooked, adorning any friend or relative that would sit still for a few minutes! She has since developed her own techniques and ‘secret family recipes’.

Darcy can do simple or complex tattoos, depending upon your event's requirements.

Serves: San Francisco and Bay area, CA and surrounding parts of California. Will travel.

Rate: $175/hour with a two hour minimum.

Speed: Darcy can do between 15 and 20 designs per hour, depending on the level of complexity
