Ron's first exposure to henna was during a visit to the kingdom of Morocco in 1987, when he saw henna being applied in a local market. It wasn't until 9 years later when he walked into a local Indian store and saw some photos of bridal henna on a bulletin board that he remembered it.

"That is henna," the old woman told him. "Yes, I know, it's very beautiful," he said. They talked for a bit and eventually she offered to train him how to mix and apply the henna to the skin. He returned the next day and she spent 2 hours going over the process and taught him how to apply henna using a stick. After the lesson, he returned home with the rest of the mix and quickly became hooked.

Over the next 10 years he would practice the art on and off, getting better, and then slacking for a bit, each time learning some new techniques or a different regional pattern. in 2006, and with the urging of his friends and family, he decided that he would finally turn pro. Today, he can be found at events, private parties and at private appointments throughout Central Florida.

Ron is comfortable doing elaborate or simple traditional Indian, Middle Eastern and Northern African designs, or contemporary western patterns. But his true passion lies with doing designs and motifs from Western and Central Africa and the Pacific Islands.

Speed:

10-15 designs per hour, depending on design size and complexity.
20-30 designs per hour if limited to 2 inch designs

Rate: $150/hour with a two hour minimum.
